Bingo is one of the most popular forms of social gambling anywhere in the world. Before the arrival of online bingo sites, bingo was generally played in large bingo halls where dozens of players sat together scratching numbers off on bingo tickets.
Today online bingo has become the easiest way to access and play bingo games. But how exactly does it work? Giggle Bingo takes a look at the basics of online bingo for beginners.
To start off with, we are going to take a look at what makes up a bingo game. In a traditional land based bingo, each player purchases a bingo card or multiple cards. With online bingo, players first open up an online bingo account.
If you are going to play bingo for real money, you are going to need to transfer funds into your online account. For each bingo game, electronic bingo cards can be purchased with the funds deducted from your online account. Once you have purchased a bingo card, the game can begin.
How the Game Works
A standard bingo card consists of a set of numbers set in a square with rows and columns. The letters B.I.N.G and O is displayed at the top of the card. When the game draws a ball, the number will be displayed on the screen.
All the numbers correspond to one of the letters at the top of the card. If the number drawn from the set of balls matches the number on your card, you mark off the number by clicking on your card. If you manage to mark off a full row of numbers before anyone else, you will win the round.
90 Ball Bingo
With online bingo, there are many different types of games that can be played at a single bingo site. In the UK and Europe, the most popular form of bingo is 90 ball bingo. With 90 ball bingo, each card has three rows and 9 columns. There are a total of 15 numbers on each card, with five on each line. The first column contains the numbers 1 through 9, while the second contains 10 – 19 and so on.
90 ball bingo is usually split into three sections. Players first play for a single line, then two lines and finally a full house which is all the numbers on the card.
75 Ball Bingo
In Canada and the USA, 75 ball bingo is the most popular, although most bingo sites offer both 90 and 75 ball bingo. In this version, each bingo card has five horizontal lines and a total of five columns with the letters B.I.N.G.O heading each column.
The first column contains the numbers 1 through to 15. The second letter I contains the numbers 16 to 30 and so on all the way thought to 75. There is also one space in the centre of the card which doesn’t have a number and is free. In 75 ball bingo, the aim is to complete a specific pattern rather than lines or a full house.
80 and 30 Ball Bingo
Another popular game being played online is 80 ball bingo. Designed to be a happy medium between the 75 and 90 game, 80 ball bingo is played in a similar manner to 75 ball game where players have to create specific patterns on the card. One of the newer versions of the game is 30 ball bingo. As you can imagine, the game is much faster and is often called speed bingo. In this game, each bingo is made up of numbers in three horizontal lines and three columns. The winner of the game is the first person to cross of all their numbers.
