Do you have no idea what theme to have for your own, or a friend’s bridal shower? It feels like every theme has been done a million times before, and it’s really hard to come up with an idea that suits everyone coming to the wedding, from the young to the old and everything in-between.

A casino theme is a great solution as it can be classy, fun and will keep everyone entertained. It’s also a great way to help people get to know each other before the wedding.

You can set the tone before the guests even arrive by including some fun gambling themed goodies with the invites. Include a playing card in the invites and ask the recipients to bring it with them. At the arrival table, set up 4 cards in a flashing display and explain that once the best 5 card hand (completed by the guests card) wins a prize.

Another great invite idea is to include scratch cards or lottery tickets in the invites, as they will add a little excitement, and someone could even win a prize.

Décor really sets the scene of any party, and casino themed décor can be easy to create, inexpensive and really effective in bringing the theme home. Instead of tablecloths, use green felt to cover the tables, as this will immediately set the scene. Of course, the traditional pastels won’t go very well with the bright green table cloth, so go with a bit more glam and include some great metallic colours, and a bit of bling.

You could buy some oversize playing cards and a selection of plastic gold coins, and pile them up for a centre piece, or even get some poker chips from a budget poker set to stack up on tables around the room. If you feel like getting crafty, you can paint plain boxes with spots to look like dice and can even use these to fill with sweets or gifts as party favours. Lastly, make sure you check with your venue that they don’t have any casino themed items, as many venues hold casino nights, and may have some great props lying around.

No bridal shower would be complete without games, and this is where a casino theme really comes into its own. You already have the perfect playing table with the green felt tablecloths so best to put them to use! Try any of the following games, they are all great fun and sure to amuse:

  • Bridal bingo is a great way to keep your guests entertained while the bride opens her gifts. Create bingo cards for each guest and include in them the names of the guests and a few different types of gifts that might be received. Remember to make each card different! While the bride is opening her gifts she announces whom each gift is from and what is in it, and the guests mark off the appropriate squares on the card. The first to get 5 in a row shouts BINGO! and wins a prize.
  • Have all the guests write on a playing card a question or a dare, and place all the cards back in the deck. Each guest chooses a card from the deck and will need to answer the question or complete the dare on the card!
  • You have these beautiful casino tables all ready, so play a casino game. Give every guest a stack of chips and run them through a few games of Blackjack (it’s the easiest to set up and play!) At the end of the evening, guests can exchange their chips for small gifts that have been assigned values based on the chip denominations.

Of course, no party is complete without some favours to take home. Casino themes offer some really great ways to treat your guests. Consider having a look for casino themed favours online, as it’s surprisingly easy to find little things such as playing card bottle stoppers, card symbol earrings or personalised playing cards.

A mini casino survival kit reminds everyone of Vegas and will likely come in very handy the day after the wedding. Include some headache tablets, mouthwash, eye mask and any other useful little bits and pieces to create the perfect recovery kit.

We all know great alcohol and fabulous cocktails are part of the Vegas theme so you can take advantage and gift out bottle openers or mini shot glasses, maybe even a cocktail shaker or kits to remind your guests to have a good time.

Whether you go big or small, it’s hard to go wrong with a casino themed bridal shower. Keep it classy and have some fun with your decorations, and everyone will be sure to have a great time!
